‘It’s not the bat’s fault’

Viruses such as ebola and corona are warning signals from nature. Because man turns the balance between (wild) animals and their environment upside down. The consensus among scientists worldwide is that we must therefore expect more and more epidemics.

In an article in De Groene Amsterdammer scientists from all over the world try to explain how Corona can develop from reservoir to host to human.

In the Netherlands a new project called ‘OneHealthPact’ for the national science agenda is started. Several Dutch universities within the Netherlands Centre for One Health (NCOH), will research how major changes in the ecosystem, such as changes in climate or water management, can lead to a greater risk of new outbreaks of infectious diseases.
